Two whippets: Poppy and Ciara

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with two really cool(and fast) whippets(boy were they fast!). I had heaps of fun with their mum, chasing them around with the camera! The location and light was a photographer’s dream; we started with some soft green grass under grey patterned trees, then finished off in a golden grassy field that sparkled in the afternoon sun. I asked their mum to tell me a bit about their story:
We have had Poppy since she was an 8 week old pup. She was our first ‘baby’. She is probably one of the most relaxed dogs on the planet. When she runs, it’s at flat out speed and she reserves absolutely nothing… For about 10 mins. Then she needs to rest for the other 23 hrs and 50 mins of the day. She hates early mornings and will often hide her head under her paw if you try to get her up before daylight. She is great with kids and had often been dressed up in boots and necklaces. It’s hard to believe she’s now 10 years old.
Ciara came into our lives as an 18 month old as a rescue dog. We had taken Poppy, who was then 9 months old, to a lure coursing event when we saw her. Naturally we went over to talk to the other whippet owners when they mentioned she was up for adoption. That was it, it was love at first sight. Ciara has the most gentle soul and has amazing empathy. She has great speed but always just holds that little bit back in case she needs to run again. She’s always keen to go for a walk and loves nothing better than being let loose to run and sniff around at my parents’ farm. Ciara is 11 this month.
